Radon calibration according to ISO 17025

Our radon calibration laboratory performs calibrations for the measurement parameter “radon activity concentration” in accordance with the requirements of ISO 17025. Accreditation by the German Accreditation Body (Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle - DAkkS) was granted on December 6, 2021. The scope of accreditation was expanded to include an additional calibration point on June 21, 2023.

Thanks to the laboratory’s automated operations, we offer high calibration capacity at comparatively low costs. We calibrate radon detectors from all manufacturers, provided they meet the necessary requirements. Calibration is performed at radon concentrations of 300 Bq/m³ (8.1 pCi/L), 3,000 Bq/m³ (81 pCi/L), or 30 kBq/m³ (810 pCi/L), with prior determination of the zero effect. A separate calibration certificate is issued for each calibration point. The exposure times are determined based on the respective sensitivity of the device, thereby minimizing the statistical uncertainty of the device being calibrated.

Calibration for radon progeny monitors

Since our new calibration facility for radioactive aerosols began operations in 2024, we have also been offering ISO 17025-compliant in-house calibrations for radon decay product monitors. This process includes a zero-point measurement followed by exposure in a radon decay product atmosphere that is stable in terms of particle concentration, particle size distribution, and activity concentration. Calibration is performed at a radon concentration of approximately 300 Bq/m³ (8.1 pCi/L) and an equilibrium factor of about 0.35. This corresponds to typical indoor air conditions within the range of the statutory reference value for radon. The results are documented in a factory calibration certificate.
